Emily completed her Master of Optometry, with Distinction, in July 2020 and has since worked as an Optometrist in the rural community of Warwick and in multiple locations across Brisbane.
Emily is therapeutically qualified and has a strong interest and passion in children's eye care and dry eye and ocular disease management. In 2022, Emily commenced her PhD with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to further pursue her passion for children's eye care. Due to her love for clinical work and providing patient care, in 2023 she decided to indefinitely defer from her PhD and join the team at Aphrodite Livanes Eyecare Plus Optometrists. She still works for QUT as an Optometrist, travelling to Indigenous communities to provide outreach Optometry services and to assist outreach Ophthalmology services. Emily also works with QUT to conduct school vision screenings for children in Brisbane and rural communities. Additionally, she recently commenced work as clinical supervisor at QUT's Optometry clinic, supporting and educating final year Optometry students.
Emily is a member of the Optometrists Association of Australia and the Australian College of Behavioural Optometrists. She has also undertaken postgraduate study, obtaining an Advanced Certificate in Children's Vision through the Australia College of Optometry. Additionally, she was the recipient of the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Rural Eyecare 2020 and the VSP/AAOF Australian Practice Excellence Scholarship in 2019.
