Kuong graduated with his optometry degree from The University of Melbourne in 2002. He subsequently completed a postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Optometry and a postgraduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics. He has been practicing in optometry clinics in Regional Australia and Melbourne. He is also a clinical supervisor at The Australian College of Optometry in Carlton since 2008 and a guest lecturer at The University of Melbourne since 2012. He has been on 10 volunteering trips to Vietnam and Cambodia to help the disadvantaged with their visual needs and problems. In 2015, Kuong was awarded the Australian College of Optometry Fellowship for his teaching and community work. He was an avid golfer with a 7 handicap before starting a family. He now spends his spare time chasing his two young children at the Werribee Zoo or Museum.
